The Board of Directors of NIKE, Inc. has announced that Elliott Hill will take on the role of President and Chief Executive Officer, effective October 14, 2024. Hill, who will also join the NIKE Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, returns to the company after previously serving in several senior leadership positions.
Mark Parker, Executive Chairman of NIKE, expressed confidence in Hill’s capabilities, stating, “Given our needs for the future, the past performance of the business, and after conducting a thoughtful succession process, the Board concluded that Elliott’s global expertise and deep understanding of our industry make him the right person to lead Nike’s next stage of growth.” Parker, who has worked with Hill for over 30 years, indicated his commitment to supporting Hill and his management team in harnessing future opportunities.
John Donahoe, the current President and CEO, will retire from his position and the Board of Directors effective October 13, 2024. He will remain as an advisor to the company through January 31, 2025, to ensure a smooth transition. Parker acknowledged Donahoe’s significant contributions during his tenure, particularly his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and his support for community investments globally.
Elliott Hill shared his excitement about returning to NIKE, stating, “NIKE has always been a core part of who I am, and I’m ready to help lead it to an even brighter future.” He emphasised his eagerness to reconnect with former colleagues and forge new relationships that will drive the company forward. Hill envisions delivering bold, innovative products that resonate with consumers and differentiate NIKE in the marketplace.
During his previous career at NIKE, Hill played a crucial role in expanding the company’s business to more than $39 billion. He held various senior leadership roles across Europe and North America, culminating in his position as President of Consumer and Marketplace, where he oversaw all commercial and marketing operations for both Nike and Jordan Brand.
Hill’s career spans 32 years at NIKE, and he holds degrees from Texas Christian University and Ohio University. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees for Texas Christian University.
In a farewell message, Donahoe reflected on his time at NIKE, saying, “It’s been an honour and privilege to be part of this incredible company.” He expressed confidence in Hill’s leadership, stating, “I look forward to seeing Nike and Elliott’s future successes.”
