Bristol has topped a new study as the UK’s city most obsessed with interior design, according to recent research by luxury outdoor furniture brand, Nth Degree. The brand used Google’s Keyword Planner tool to analyse search trends for key interior design styles across major UK cities. The findings reveal which areas are leading the charge in search interest for various design trends set to dominate in 2025.
Bristol’s residents are particularly passionate about interiors, with the city registering the highest number of searches per million people related to stylish home design. It was followed closely by London, Leeds, and Glasgow, all of which also demonstrated strong interest in interior design trends.
Among the most searched styles were Art Deco, Minimalism, Maximalism, Japandi, and Mid-Century, all of which are expected to see significant growth in 2025. Art Deco, known for its luxurious and symmetrical designs, led the charge across the UK, with 33,100 monthly searches. Bristol topped this trend with 260 searches per million people, while London and Leeds followed with 170 and 160 searches, respectively. Manchester has also seen a surge in interest, with Art Deco searches increasing by 238% in recent months.
Minimalism, with its clean, simple, and monochromatic approach, has also gained significant traction. Over 18,000 searches are conducted for ‘minimalism’ every month, marking a 22% increase from the previous year. Bristol and Leeds again lead this trend, with both cities registering 110 searches per million people each month. By contrast, Liverpool, Edinburgh, and Birmingham recorded much lower interest, with just 30, 40, and 50 searches per million, respectively.
Maximalism, known for its eclectic and bold designs, has also gained in popularity, with searches rising by 50% over the past year. Bristol is again the leader here, with 60 searches per million, reflecting the city’s free-spirited culture. Glasgow came in second with 39 searches, followed by Leeds with 35.
Japandi, a hybrid of Japanese and Scandinavian design, is set to increase in popularity in 2025. Bristol leads this style as well, with 34 searches per million people, followed by Sheffield and London, each with 25 searches per million, indicating that Japandi will be a defining trend in homes across the UK, particularly in the capital.
Mid-century design, known for its balance of functionality and comfort, remains a timeless favourite. Bristol once again leads, with 27 searches per million, followed by Glasgow with 17 searches. Leeds and London are also notable for their interest in this style, with 15 and 14.8 searches per million, respectively.
Nth Degree’s research highlights the growing interest in interiors across the UK, with Bristol emerging as the undisputed leader in design obsession. The city’s love for eclectic and stylish interiors sets the tone for what promises to be a transformative year for home decor in 2025.
