The 2024 Thunderpick World Championship Finals, a major Counterstrike 2 (CS2) tournament, will be held at LVL in Berlin, it was announced today. The event promises to be one of the largest in the esports calendar, with a prize pool of $1 million (USD) and top teams from around the globe competing.
Tickets for the highly anticipated event go on sale on 1 October. LVL, one of Berlin’s premier venues for gaming and esports, will host the in-person finals, giving fans the chance to witness the action live. According to Kelly Sanders, Head of Strategy for Thunderpick, the combination of a record-setting prize, skilled teams, and high-quality production makes this an unmissable event.
“With a $1M prize pool, exceptionally talented teams, and an impressive production team, the Thunderpick World Championship is shaping up to be an unforgettable experience. We expect tickets to sell out quickly due to the venue’s size, so fans should secure their seats early,” Sanders commented.
The Thunderpick World Championship 2024 will begin with an online GSL Group Stage running from 21 to 25 October. Sixteen teams, including well-known names such as BLEED, Cloud9, and Virtus.Pro, will be divided into four groups of four teams. Each group will compete to secure a place in the single-elimination Playoffs, with the top two teams from each group progressing, while the other two are eliminated.
The Quarterfinals, taking place on 26 October, will see the eight remaining teams battle in best-of-three matches. The four winners will advance to the Semifinals, which will be played live at LVL in Berlin on 2 November. Following the Semifinals, the third-place play-off and the Grand Final will take place on 3 November. The two finalists will compete in a best-of-five series, with the winning team claiming the $500,000 top prize.
The tournament will feature a star-studded broadcast lineup, including Tres “stunna” Saranthus as Desk Host, alongside analysts Janko “YNk” Paunović and Sudhen “Bleh” Wahengbam. The action will be called by casters Hugo “Hugo” Byron and Adam “Dinko” Hawthorne, while Edona “Dona Spock” Musliu will conduct interviews.
This marks the second edition of the Thunderpick World Championship. In 2023, FaZe Clan triumphed in the Grand Final, with the total prize pool at the time standing at $600,000. This year, the tournament has seen participating teams compete in six qualifier rounds across Europe, North America, and South America since April.
GRID, the official esports services provider for the tournament, will play a crucial role in ensuring the event runs smoothly. Their advanced tools for tournament management, data visualisation, and security will help enhance the integrity and commercial appeal of the Thunderpick World Championship.
