Orbbec, a global leader in 3D vision systems, has announced the launch of its latest product, the Gemini 335Lg Stereo Vision 3D Camera, at ROSCon 2024. This new camera, part of the Gemini 330 series, is designed to enhance the performance of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and robotic arms used in demanding environments such as warehouses, factories, and fulfilment centres. It also offers improved efficiency in complex tasks like bin-picking and palletizing.
The Gemini 335Lg stands out due to its use of advanced Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link 2 (GMSL2) technology and a FAKRA connector, ensuring stable and reliable connectivity for robots, even in challenging conditions. The camera is the latest addition to Orbbec’s growing portfolio of 3D solutions aimed at the robotics sector, particularly focusing on AMRs and robotic arms.
Michael McSweeney, Orbbec’s Vice President of Sales, highlighted the importance of the product for the sector. “We are excited to introduce the Gemini 335Lg at ROSCon 2024. This new addition reflects our commitment to enhancing robotics solutions with advanced technology, offering greater stability and reliability for AMRs and robotic arms,” he said.
One of the key features of the Gemini 335Lg is its built-in depth processing capability, powered by Orbbec’s latest ASIC MX6800 depth engine. This innovation allows the camera to process high-resolution depth maps internally, freeing up the host processor to handle AI tasks, enhancing overall robotics performance.
The new camera also offers stable and smooth data transmission, supporting bandwidths of up to 6Gbps and long-distance connections of up to 15 metres, powered by GMSL2 technology. Rated IP65 for its durability, the Gemini 335Lg is resistant to vibration and capable of maintaining connections in harsh conditions such as uneven terrain, water, dust, and electromagnetic interference. This ensures the camera’s reliability during high-speed movements and in environments where stable connectivity is crucial.
The Gemini 335Lg also supports multi-device collaboration, with up to 16 cameras able to work together simultaneously. This offers precise synchronisation of depth and colour streams across multiple devices, enabling complex robotics setups to function smoothly. Orbbec’s focus on ease of use is demonstrated by the camera’s out-of-the-box compatibility with platforms such as NVIDIA Jetson, ROS, and ROS2, ensuring easy integration into existing systems.
The new camera also retains the USB Type-C interface found in previous models while adding GMSL2 and FAKRA support, maintaining seamless application development through a unified software development kit (SDK).
As part of a collaboration with Universal Robots, the Gemini 335Lg will be featured in the new UR AI Accelerator, which integrates the camera with Universal Robots’ PolyScope X software. This accelerator is powered by NVIDIA’s Isaac AI models and Jetson AGX Orin technology, offering developers a platform to build AI applications and speed up research and product development.
The Gemini 335Lg’s launch signals Orbbec’s continued focus on pushing the boundaries of robotics technology, with a product designed to improve both efficiency and reliability in environments that demand precision and durability. Visit Gemini 335Lg for details.
