Turkish telecom giant Turkcell, in partnership with ZTE Corporation, has set a new European record for 5G-Advanced speed, achieving over 32 Gbps in a trial conducted in Istanbul. This impressive accomplishment is based on ZTE’s cutting-edge 1.6 GHz mmWave AAU technology, paired with its 64TR N78 AAU and commercial CPE, highlighting the companies’ dedication to advancing 5G connectivity.
The trial took place on 5 November as part of a collaboration to drive technological innovations in telecommunications. Turkcell’s Chief Technology Officer, Professor Dr. Vehbi Çağrı Güngör, described the milestone as a testament to the power of partnerships in pushing technological limits. He noted that such advancements could significantly enhance business operations and customer experiences. “Transitioning to 5G will enhance operational efficiency and customer experiences,” said Dr. Güngör. “This speed milestone showcases the power of collaboration in advancing industry-wide progress.”
ZTE Senior Vice President and Netaş Chairman Peng Aiguang expressed similar optimism about the companies’ achievements. Peng highlighted Turkcell’s essential role in developing advanced technical solutions, underscoring the benefits of cooperative innovation in 5G-A applications. For ZTE, he said, expanding 5G-Advanced technology is about more than speed. “It’s about building a future where complex and data-heavy applications can thrive, transforming the user experience.”
5G-Advanced technology holds vast potential across various sectors, from smart cities and healthcare to autonomous vehicles. The increased connectivity speeds could enable more seamless operations in data-intensive environments, allowing industries to function in previously unimaginable ways. By advancing 5G technology, Turkcell and ZTE are also setting the stage for new business models and opportunities that can shape a digital-first economy.
Both companies aim to continue their research in 5G, expanding applications that will benefit consumers and businesses. Their commitment to developing 5G-Advanced capabilities is set to create more convenient, efficient, and intelligent experiences that cater to the growing demands of the digital age. This landmark achievement represents a key milestone in their vision for a more connected future.
